Motor Trader Awards

The recent Motor Trader awards showed that times are a changing within the retail motor industry

The Motor Trader awards have been long established and reward companies and people involved in doing good things in the retail motor industry.

Over 1,000 of the great and the good from the industry attended the evening and that included Shoreham Vehicle Auctions and some colleagues and valued customers.

It was good to meet up with so many old faces and understand more about who the current movers and shakers are and what they have achieved over the past 12 months.

Just looking at the winners and highly commended dealers, it’s obvious the retail motor industry landscape is changing with lots of mentions for emerging brands like Hyundai and Skoda and revitalised brands such as Suzuki and Land Rover.

With the i3 being voted as car of the year it shows how far acceptance of electric cars has come. When you go for the range extender option this looks like a sound option for the family due to its very low running costs and decent 200+ miles of range.

Some things never change however with the Ford Fiesta picking up used car of the year, while CarGiant won best car supermarket. Best used car retailer was Marshalls Grantham Volvo which shows a franchised dealer can make a great success of its used car business alongside running a profitable new car operation.

With the competition in both new and used cars still fierce one guarantee is that come the 2015 awards those dealers that have modernised or changed their people and businesses to reflect a fast moving retail movement stand a good chance of being shortlisted again next year.
