Shoreham Vehicle Auctions raises £13,700 at annual auction for Sussex children’s hospice

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

On Monday 26 October 2015 Shoreham Vehicle Auctions held its annual charity auction in aid Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice for the fifth year. The event raised an incredible £13,700, more than double the original fundraising target. This amount is enough to pay for two days of all care services provided by Chestnut Tree House, both at the House near Arundel and in families’ own homes across East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire. Shoreham Vehicle Auctions have held this annual event since 2011 and have now raised an incredible £29,365 in total for Chestnut Tree House.

The organisers received fantastic support from the region’s motor trade, with dealers and motor groups from Sussex and Surrey donating vehicles, track days and gift experiences for the auction. The auction, held in the evening, saw donated vehicles going under the hammer for more than twice their market value. Donations from Frosts Cars, Yeomans Group, Tates Motor Group, Harwoods Group and H.A. Fox Jaguar Guildford were all quickly snapped up by traders and buyers, showing the generous support for Chestnut Tree House. Furthermore, Shoreham Vehicle Auctions waived all fees for each vehicle donated and pledged an extra £250 for each sale. On more than one occasion, traders and buyers purchased lots, only to donate them back into the auction to maximise funds.

Alex Wright, Managing Director of Shoreham Vehicle Auctions said: “We are extremely grateful and touched by the generosity of the motor trade in Sussex and the surrounding areas, not to mention the audience of new and existing buyers, who ensured that it was a fantastic evening. We couldn’t believe the final totals; everyone at Shoreham is ecstatic with the money raised, which will make a real difference to this fantastic and humbling cause.”

Caroline Roberts-Quigley, Community Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House said: “We are amazed and incredibly grateful to Shoreham Vehicle Auctions and everyone involved in the event for this fantastic support. The amount raised will pay for all care costs on both Thursday 4 August and Wednesday 5 October 2016 as part of our Pay for a Day scheme. Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice provides specialist palliative care services to 300 children and young people aged 0 – 19 with life-limiting and life-shortening conditions in East Sussex, West Sussex and South East Hampshire. It costs well over £3.5 million each year to provide all our care services. Families are never charged for their care and the hospice receives less than 7% from central government, so we rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of local community. Once again I would like to say a big thank you to the organisers at Shoreham Vehicle Auctions for their ongoing support and this amazing result from the 2015 auction.”

Shoreham Vehicle Auctions achieves double award win at Adur & Worthing Business Awards

  • Lancing-based auction house win Overall Business and Large Business awards
  • Double achievement celebrated at prestigious ceremony at Pavilion Theatre, Worthing
  • Shoreham Vehicle Auctions recognised for significant increases in vehicle sales and profit

Shoreham Vehicle Auctions has picked up two awards at the Adur & Worthing Business Awards, emerging victorious in the Overall Business and Large Business categories.

The Lancing-based auction house joined the cream of south coast businesses for the prestigious ceremony in Worthing, receiving both awards from television presenter Nick Wallis on the night.

Shoreham has been recognised for doubling turnover, vastly increasing profit, tripling staff levels from 20 to 60 and increasing weekly average vehicle sales from 150 per week to more than 500 on average. Furthermore, overall vehicle sales have increased 45% since Managing Director, Alex Wright, acquired the business in 2010.

Over the last five years, Shoreham Vehicle Auctions has made significant strides to ensure investing in local talent is a priority, building a team with over 150 years’ experience in remarketing. This has been achieved through maintaining existing staff and encouraging new talent through apprenticeships.

The south coast auctioneers’ commitment to the local area includes everything from employing tradespeople in the Lancing and Brighton areas to supporting Sussex-based children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House, raising over £25,000 for the cause in the last five years.

Shoreham’s investment in their business has helped attract interest from across the UK and Ireland, ensuring their dedicated buyer base includes both local and national dealerships.

Reflecting on Shoreham’s double award win, Alex Wright said: “We are honoured to have received two awards from Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, the Shoreham Herald and the Adur and Worthing councils; it’s testament to the hard work put in by the entire Shoreham team, who constantly provide an honest and transparent service to our local buyer base.”

Generosity of Sussex Motor Industry Shines Through at Charity Auction

Tuesday, November 10th, 2015
  • Shoreham Vehicle Auctions raises £13,700 at annual auction for Chestnut Tree House
  • Total amount is more than double originated target, with all proceeds going towards care at the Sussex children’s hospice
  • Dealers and motor groups from Sussex and Surrey donated vehicles, track days and gift experiences for the auction

Shoreham Vehicle Auctions’ fifth annual charity auction for Chestnut Tree House received a fantastic reception from the motor trade in Sussex and the surrounding areas on Monday 26 October.

Held in aid of the Sussex-based children’s hospice, the south coast auctioneers raised over £13,700 for their charity auction, more than double their £6,850 target, thanks to the support of local dealer groups and buyers.

On an evening when donated vehicles were going under the hammer for more than twice their market value, the wide range of donations from Frosts Cars, Yeomans Group, Tates Motor Group, Harwoods Group and H.A. Fox Jaguar Guildford were quickly snapped up.

The amount generated approached the total funds raised by Shoreham for Chestnut Tree House, since first supporting the Arundel-based hospice in 2010.

The only hospice of its kind in Sussex, Chestnut Tree House cares for 300 children and young adults with progressive life-limiting conditions. Offering support to their families, this includes psychological and bereavement support, end of life and short break care and sibling support.

The generosity of buyers and traders was evident on auction night, with many not content with simply selling or buying vehicles and prizes at their starting price. Furthermore, Shoreham waived all fees for each vehicle donated and pledged an extra £250 for each sale.

One vehicle donated from Frosts Cars starting bidding at four times its set price, with the trader placing it back on their forecourt. All proceeds from the auction – and those from what the vehicle sells for at the dealership – will go directly to Chestnut Tree House.

On more than one occasion, traders and buyers purchased lots, only to donate them back into the auction to maximise funds. All proceeds from both sales went directly towards the hospice.

Shoreham had been hoping to raise just under £7,000 for Chestnut Tree House at the auction; the amount needed to fund a day of services at Chestnut Tree House. Families are never charged for care, yet as annual service charges exceed £3 million and with less than 8p in every pound funded by the government, the hospice relies heavily on donations. With more than double the targeted amount raised, Shoreham can help to fund two whole days of care.

“We are extremely grateful and touched by the generosity of the motor trade in Sussex and the surrounding areas, not to mention the audience of new and existing buyers, who ensured that it was a fantastic evening,” commented Alex Wright, Managing Director of Shoreham Vehicle Auctions. “We couldn’t believe the final totals; everyone at Shoreham is ecstatic with the money raised, which will make a real difference to this fantastic and humbling cause.”

CHESTNUT TREE HOUSE CHARITY SALE EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS

Monday, November 2nd, 2015

Last Monday night saw our 5th annual charity auction on behalf of Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. We had cars 13 cars donated by local dealerships and many other great lots including Rugby tickets, a Jaguar for the weekend and signed sports shirts.

On the night it attracted a massive crowd and the generosity of the motor trade was beyond all expectations. We more than doubled our target for the evening.

We will publish full details later this week but for now we want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved.

Charity Auction

Monday, October 19th, 2015

We are proud to announce we will be holding our 5th Charity auction on the 26th October 2015 with all proceeds going to The Chestnut Tree Hospice, the only children’s hospice in Sussex.

It all started in 2011 when SVA celebrated 50 years in business when Alex Wright, who bought the business in 2010, decided to hold a charity auction to celebrate 50 years of trading. The choice of charity was simple, Chestnut Tree is the only children’s hospice in Sussex and the team there are grateful for every penny raised. The first sale was such a success Alex decided to make it an annual event and we have to date raised over £15,000 with each auction outdoing the last. This year should be no exception with 20 lots so far donated including 12 vehicles from various local dealers, sports memorabilia and a Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar F Type for the weekend. The target is £6850.00 which pays for a day of services at the hospice, this will be helped by an extra £250.00 being donated by SVA for every vehicle sold. Full details of the lots and donors can be found on our website.

Alex said “ Previous auctions have provided us with some highly rewarding and fun experiences with the most unlikely of our buyers proving to be the most generous, one year a trader named Joe bought 4 items to the value of £ 500.00 only to have them re-offered”.

SHOREHAM EXPERIENCES STRONG DEMAND FROM AROUND EUROPE FOR EX LOCAL AUTHORITY/PUBLIC UTILITY VEHICLES

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

Shoreham Vehicle Auctions experienced a strong demand from around Europe for ex-local authority and public utility vehicles offered at a recent specialist sale.
Over 80 buyers attended at the auction and a further 30 bid online with vehicles going to successful buyers in eastern Europe and Ireland.
Stars of the show were eight ex-London authority Mercedes Econic 6×2 refuse collection vehicles which collectively made £104,300, with a 58-plate truck with 73,847 miles on the clock making £18,800.
08-plate models made between £10,200 and £13,000 depending on mileage and a 150,000 mile 06-plate Econic made £7,500.
A mix of ex-utility vehicles completed the 25 strong entry with prices ranging from £7,100 for a 06-plate 103,000 mile Mercedes Atego 815 7.5 tonner, to £15,816 for a 121,000 mile 09-plate Atego 1318. All Ategos were fitted with dropside bodies complete with secure storage behind the cab area.
“It’s the first sale of this kind we had run for a few months so it was interesting to see that the demand for these types of vehicles is still very strong. Buyers travelled from Ireland and Romania to attend the sale, while we had a number of foreign buyers bidding online,” explained Tim Spencer, Shoreham’s commercial vehicle sales manager.
“The export market seems to be very strong for the RCVs in particular, while the ex-utility stock was in good condition and will certainly have a second life in the construction or civil engineering sectors,” he added.

Charity Auction

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

We held our fourth Charity Auction on behalf of Chestnut Tree House on Monday 27th October which has now become a regular event in our diary to celebrate 54 years of trading. Items are donated by various suppliers and clients and of course SVA contributes. An amazing £4200.00 was raised on the night from items such as signed Millwall football donated by R S Joyner & Sons which fetched £300.00! The under bidder was On-line and had bought the last three signed balls in previous auctions, the irony being neither the buyer nor he are football  fans let alone Millwal fans. Three local dealers contributed a car each and the Harwoods Group a Range Rover Sport for the weekend which fetched £480.00. The evening was enjoyed by everyone and I have to say a massive thank you to all those who contributed, their generosity was overwhelming.

We will of course be holding another such sale next year.

Monday, October 20th, 2014

In  October 2011 Shoreham Vehicle Auctions proudly reached 50 years of trading and in order to celebrate held its first Charity Auction on behalf of Chestnut Tree House, the only Children’s hospice in Sussex. The event was such a success we have held one every year since and are pleased to say we have to date raised nearly £10 000 for this worthy cause. What makes it more special is that the Fundraising team are genuinely grateful for every penny we donate. This year is no exception and on Monday 27th October during our evening sale we will be holding our fourth such event. Donations currently include an X reg Peugeot 206, Range Rover Sport for the weekend,  Nike Fuel band and a signed Portsmouth shirt with more to follow.

What has been a pleasure  is the generosity of some of our customers, one in particular who paid nearly £50.00 for a signed Millwall football, when asked if he supported them he replied ” No, I hate football….”

If you wish to donate please do not hesitate to contact or why not come along on Monday for a great night out.

Introducing a battery lease scheme for used EVs will dramatically boost new EV car sales says Shoreham auction MD

Monday, August 11th, 2014

  • Car makers who introduce a battery lease scheme for used EVs will see a dramatic sales uplift
  • Dealers will avoid stocking used EVs until a battery lease option is available
  • Leasing companies adopting stronger EV residuals will help reduce monthly lease costs

Sales of new electric cars are up 246% compared to this time last year helped by improved charging infrastructure, the continued offer of £5,000 government contributions and a noted change in the public’s approach to range anxiety and environmental protection.   Large corporates, particularly the energy providers, are now looking at embracing EVs as they provide an immediate answer to reducing running costs and emissions on a section of their fleet.   What’s more, if the popularity of electric vehicles
